Radical Party: “Cheap Paks energy could cover all the needs of Hungarian households”

The Paks nuclear power plant has the capacity to provide energy to cover all the needs of all Hungarian households, opposition party leader Mi Hazánk (Our Homeland) said on Wednesday.

“By using the cheap energy produced by the Paks plant, the Hungarian energy crisis could be solved,” László Toroczkai told a press conference.

Mi Hazánk rejects all sanctions against Russia while supporting the import of natural gas from that country to Hungary, he said. The party at the same time rejects any EU mechanism involving transferring any amount of imported gas to Germany, which “has totally ruined its energy policy situation with bad political decisions”, Toroczkai added. .

He pledged to organize nationwide protests “if the government does not start managing the [energy] crisis with the help of our proposals”.

Toroczkai said Mi Hazánk would send a letter to the prime minister on Thursday with his proposals, including imposing a “digital tax” on the net income of tech companies that “always find a way to avoid paying taxes.” The party is also proposing to impose a tax on casinos, international food delivery companies and the top 100 Hungarians, he said.
