Turkey approves visa-free travel for Hungarian citizens

Holders of Hungarian identity cards should be exempted from visa applications for tourist visits to Turkey, according to a decision published in the Official Gazette.

Citizens of the Eastern European country will now be able to travel or transit through Turkey without a visa with a maximum residence period of 90 days.

“It has been decided, in accordance with Article 18 of Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection, to grant visa exemption to holders of Hungarian identity cards for tourist travel and transit documents with a maximum residency period of 90 days every 180 days,” the decision read.

Bilateral relations between Turkey and Hungary have peaked in recent years in all areas, including politics, economy and culture.

Enjoying warm relations in all fields through high-level bilateral visits and consultation mechanisms, the two countries have elevated their relations to a strategic level with a strategic cooperation agreement in 2013. A high-level Strategic Cooperation Council level was also created the same year, co-chaired by the President of Türkiye and the Hungarian Prime Minister, which meets once every two years.
