Vettel’s joy of second place short-lived after Hungary’s disqualification
Sebastian vettelthe joy of winning his second podium of 2021 Formula 1 The season was short-lived on Sunday, with the German finding himself disqualified from second place in the Hungarian Grand Prix.
the Formula 1 team Aston Martin Cognizant driver followed Esteban Ocon at home at Hungaroring but stopped on the right track on the way back to the pit lane. When the car was returned to the paddock, the FIA were unable to extract the necessary liter of fuel from the AMR21 and were therefore forced to disqualify the German from the results.
Aston Martin thought there was enough fuel in the car and was allowed to attempt to extract it from the car under surveillance, but they were unable to get more than the 0.3 liters the FIA got , and as such, Vettel was disqualified.
“The team had several opportunities to try to get the required amount of fuel out of the tank, but it was only possible to pump 0.3 liters. “ the FIA statement said.
“During the hearing in the presence of the FIA Technical Delegate and the FIA Technical Director, the Aston Martin team principal declared that there must be 1.44 liters left in the tank, but they are not in able to pull it out. This figure is calculated using the FFM or injector model.
“In view of this situation, car n ° 5 does not comply with the requirements of art. 6.6 FIA Technical Regulations. According to art. 6.6.2 Competitors must ensure that a 1.0 liter fuel sample can be taken from the car at all times. The procedure was followed, but the 1.0 liter fuel sample could not be taken.
Vettel admitted before his disqualification that he was disappointed not to win, believing he had a better pace than Ocon in the lead.
The four-time world champion had avoided chaos at the first turn of the first lap to jump to third place, but failed to find a lead on the Alpine F1 team driver and was forced to settle for second place under the checkered flag.
“Second place is a great result and we can be proud of our performance, but when you are so close to winning you always want more” said Vettel. “At the start of the race I could see the contact in front of me so I took the inside line and ended up with the lead cars.
“From there I felt like I tried to take the lead during the 70 laps, but it’s so difficult to overtake here. I think we were faster for most of the race but there wasn’t enough difference to pass as it was very difficult to follow in dirty air.
“I tried to put pressure on Esteban [Ocon] in an error, but he did not make a single error. Congratulations to Esteban, it’s his day and I’m very happy for him. He deserved the victory. I will sleep well tonight knowing that I gave my all.
Vettel says Aston Martin will have their hands full in the battle for fifth place in the Manufacturers’ Championship in 2021, especially with Alpine and Scuderia AlphaTauri Honda both well marked at the Hungaroring.
“We have a good fight in our hands in the midfield with Alpine and AlphaTauri, so we will take advantage of the summer break to rest and come back ready to fight in Belgium,” he said. he said.
